Seneca County-based activities and developments
A global leader in designing and manufacturing pumps for the industrial sector, ITT Goulds Pumps has played an integral role in the Seneca County business landscape since 1848. Goulds Pumps began in the mid-19th century as the world’s first manufacturer of iron pumps and has grown to become one of the world’s largest manufacturers of industrial pumps that serve more than 130 nations. The company operates primarily in the Chemical, Pulp & Paper, Power Generation, Oil & Gas and Mining industries.
Goulds Pumps has an installed base of more than half a million process pumps worldwide. ITT Corporation acquired Goulds Pumps in 1997 and continues to operate it as part of the Industrial Process Value Center. In October 2008, Goulds Pumps invested more than $10 million for the renovation of its manufacturing operations in Seneca County. The project included the renovation and upgrade of the company’s 850,000-square-foot manufacturing facility. This also included the expansion of its research and development center to accommodate testing of new, larger pumps for burgeoning global markets.
In 2014, Goulds Pumps made another commitment to Seneca County by investing more than $30 million in the building expansion of a new Test & Packaging facility. ITT leadership is focused on making the Seneca Falls facility more competitive each year. This will facilitate the long-term success of the business in the Oil, Gas, Paper, Chemical and Mining markets going forward. They hope to work with the IDA and local community to meet the challenges of attracting talent and filling key positions in Seneca Falls. Goulds Pumps in Seneca Falls is home to more than 300 hourly USW-represented employees and employs over 400 people in total.

The company’s decision to continue growing and investing in its Seneca Falls facility demonstrates its continued commitment to Upstate New York. As a major economic engine in the Finger Lakes region, the growth and expansion of Goulds Pumps is a critical component to keeping the area viable and competitive.
